Ulsoor, the heart of old Bengaluru is a tightly packed urban settlement with no urban green spaces to speak of. 

 

Situated in this context, the site of ICSA provides a scope for impact in its context. The site brings with itself a unique program of a Mixed martial arts Academy and as a conclusion of context analysis, we proposed a cafe and a much-needed public green space as an addition to that program.  

 

The site has been carefully designed to utilize the negative corners as positive open spaces that act as a breather to the street and as a spill out for the cafeteria. Due to its proximity to the Halasuru metro station, there is an existing on going foot traffic that can be leveraged by addition of the cafeteria.  

 

The interior space of the academy is largely open to accommodate a practice area with storage and ancillary functions pushed towards the periphery. The architecture itself would be made as per the industrial style with exposed materials and minimal internal partitions.
